An extremely helpful text geared specifically to providers - valuable information for conventional practitioners in navigating an integrative approach to health care.
Disease Prevention and Treatment: Fourth Edition. 2003; Life Extension Foundation. Extensive compilation of innovative ways to prevent and treat disease through lifestyle, diet, supplements and drugs. Recommended, although some of the therapies are thin on clinical evidence.
Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine: Second Edition. Murray and Pizzorno; 1998; Prima Publishing. Excellent source of alternative therapies, highly recommended, but already a little dated.
The Complete Self-care Guide to Holistic Medicine. Ivker, Anderson, Trivieri; 1999, Tarcher/Putnam. Another excellent guide to alternative therapies with a good section on healing the mind and spirit as well as the body.
The Way of Qigong: The Art and Science of Chinese Energy Healing. Kenneth Cohen; 1997; Ballantine Books. Excellent introduction to this ancient healing system. Many practical exercises outlined.
From Fatigued to Fantastic. Jacob Teitelbaum; 2001; Avery Books. Well-written book on chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia by an expert who has developed effective treatment protocols. If you have no idea how to start with these patients, read this.
The Thyroid Solution: A Revolutionary Mind-Body Program That Will Help You. Ridha Arem; Ballentine Books. Excellent book on thyroid problems by an endocrinologist.
The Metabolic Typing Diet. William Wolcott; 2000; Broadway Books. Well written book on how to customize the type of diet best for your body.
Women’s Bodies, Women’s Wisdom. Christiane Northrup; 1998; Bantam. Written for women, this wonderful book is full of insight and wisdom on how to heal.
