Using Holistic Health to Treat and Prevent Stress
Join us for an evening dedicated to adrenal health!
Thursday, May 23, 2013
Three integrative practitioners will discuss the, often neglected, adrenal glands and how they affect your energy and wellbeing.
Dr. Tamara MacDonald
, Naturopathic Physician, will describe the “nuts and bolts” of how the adrenals work. This will include how to assess adrenal functioning and the basics of healthy adrenal support for better energy during the day and restful sleep at night.
, Licensed Acupuncturist, will discuss the role of acupuncture, a modality of Oriental Medicine, in the treatment of “adrenal fatigue.” She will also highlight how Oriental medicine assesses the pattern of dysfunctional symptoms and will suggest both treatment options and lifestyle changes.
Mary Ellen Derwis-Balaz
, massotherapist and Chi Kung practitioner will speak about the practice of incorporating movement, breath and meditation, as found in Chi Kung, to support increased awareness, circulation and relaxation. This practice aligns easily with the other integrative approaches to adrenal health and in addition, empowers the patient through a personal investment in their holistic wellness plan.
will open the evening with song! Jodie is a singer, songwriter, recording artist and workshop leader. She is also a member of the Nashville Songwriters Association International.

Welcome to the American Holistic Medical Association (AHMA) in Northeast Ohio! We are a group of doctors, licensed practitioners, students, and supporters who are all interested in holistic health. We embrace the principles of holistic medicine that integrate conventional and complementary therapies to promote optimal health for the whole person – body, mind, and spirit.
There is tremendous interest in holistic health throughout the NE region of Ohio. The major hospitals have integrated wellness programs, doctors are practicing acupuncture, and licensed practitioners from psychologists to massage therapists are integrating energy-based methods into their work. Based on the years of experience of our members and engaging networking events, we know that people are increasingly looking for practitioners who offer holistic health services. We are thrilled to support and promote this movement.
Over the past few years the AHMA NE Ohio chapter has sponsored a number of educational and networking opportunities for its members and the community. For example, we hosted a series of talks about the holistic heart, holistic brain, and holistic psychiatry. In addition, we co-sponsored a screening of the documentary, Forks Over Knives, which makes a well-researched and profound case for the health advantages of a plant-based diet.
In addition to continuing to offer educational opportunities, we are launching a new initiative to strengthen networking among the practitioners. A community forum is being designed for the website that will allow members to share information about their services, new programs, upcoming presentations, and recent publications.
You are invited to contact any of the board members for more information about AHMA in NE Ohio. Please sign our e-newsletter list so you can be informed of upcoming events. We hope to meet you at one of the upcoming meetings!
