Aging is the process of becoming older, a process that is genetically determined and environmentally modulated. Science cannot predict the duration of a human life. Genetics, too, fails, because a centenarian may not have a centenarian parent. According to Dr Chopra: “Aging is much more of a choice than people ever dream” and for that, it is essential to reinterpret the concept of body and realize the “changeless I” inside of us, which the ancient sages in India simply called the Self (Soham). He considers three distinct ways to measure someone’s age: “Chronological Age – how old you are by the calendar; Biological Age – how old your body is in terms of critical life signs and cellular processes, i.e., how time has affected your organs and tissues compared to other people of your chronological age; and Psychological Age – how old you feel you are.”

You have questions. Questions about how to make your practice more integrative. Where to find other practitioners to expand your referral network. When to go on a retreat for a transformative experience. Who to call to promote your holistic events. You have the ultimate resource for answers to these questions: you and your fellow members. Through AHMA, you are connected to fellow practitioners from a number of disciplines with a wealth of experience and knowledge. Members learn from one another. That is the impetus behind AHMA’s major focus to make connecting with your colleagues simpler, more accessible than ever.

Where has it come from, and where is it going? What approach do we as a holistic medicine organization take in our effort to transform healthcare into a sustainable, holistic / integrative model focused on wellness and prevention? There are two potential positions we could take and they both have a legitimate place in the greater scheme of things. However, the AHMA is better suited to take one path over the other.
Toxins are possibly one of the main factors, in people suffering diseases, and premature aging/senility. The sentiment is quite in line with the Principles of Holistic Medicine. It implies connection, the healing power of love and relationship-centered care. I thought of all this after a trip to Kentucky last month and what a great technological stride AHMA just made.
High naturally occurring levels of testosterone in men are associated with low mortality from all causes, cardiovascular disease, and cancer (Khaw, et al., 2007).

The Road to Holistic Practice, Part 2: A World of Toxins

The transition to these new ideas was not easy. Colleagues, residents and medical students did not want to hear that the chemicals in children's bodies that triggered their inflammatory symptoms of asthma, eczema and other acute and chronic health conditions were produced directly from the accumulation of toxins in childrens lives. The more you talk about something—a goal, a resolution, a project, an intention—the more it scatters. It’s like you’re frittering away bits and pieces of your grand design each time you mention it. The more you talk about it, the less interesting it becomes.
